Charities Project – November

Our chosen charity for November is the Elpida Shelter of Hope based in Livadeia in Central Greece. Here is some information about them:

Eleven years ago, one woman with an abundance of compassion decided she could make a difference to care for the stray dogs in the town of Livadeia, Greece. Her name is Stavroula and thanks to her efforts Elpida Shelter has been operating for two years. The shelter is currently home to about 50 dogs.

Her mission is to save as many dogs from a life on the streets as she can. She provides care for the dogs as well as a shelter, food and medical care. Whenever possible, she attempts to re home the dogs and has managed to find adopters from as far as the UK, Holland and Norway.

The shelter is built on land that Stavroula was able to negotiate from the local Municipality, but it requires significant improvement to remain a safe, healthy environment for the dogs.  The money raised by our project will go towards vets bills, food and improvements for the shelter.’
