Charity Project – Trikala Animal Welfare Society
Trikala is a non profit, no kill, volunteer dog rescue welfare serving Trikala (Northern Greece) and surrounding areas. They are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless and on the streets. Unfortunately, there are many dogs that the shelter simply does not have room for. The dogs that can’t be brought into the shelter due to a lack of space are fed daily, played with and are taken to the vet when they are poorly.
Trikala shelter assist dogs in distress without regard to age or breed. The dogs that they feel are not adoptable, for whatever reason, are kept in the shelter for the rest of their lives, where they will be safe and cared for. Animals in their care are spayed or neutered whenever possible, but finances often mean that this isn’t possible. Naturally, the dogs in the greatest need for medical attention have to take priority. Trikala would like to use the money raised by our charity project to spay and neuter more of the animals that they have, as this will help to reduce the problem of free roaming and stray dogs.
The shelter is run completely by unpaid volunteers, by just 5 committed women who take care of 160+ dogs inside the shelter, and who feed a further 70+ outside living as strays. As they receive no government funding they rely solely on donations. Any monies raised through this partnership, will be spent on food and on much needed medicines that the dogs need to survive.
