Course at a glance
Introduction
This diploma is designed to explore Anatomy and Physiology. Within this course you will be introduced to body systems in a logical manner. You will learn about the human body, communication systems, intake and elimination systems and gain knowledge of atoms, nucleus and compounds.
Learning Objectives
- Students will have an opportunity to learn about how the human body works
- To review the atoms, nucleus and compounds which make up the system of the body
- Look at different methods of communications systems
- A review of how to use different aspects of Anatomy and Physiology
This course consists of Ten Units and is a qualification awarded by CIE Global, a leading Awarding Body.
Assessment Objectives (AO)
AO: 1
Students must select and demonstrate clearly relevant knowledge and understanding through the use of evidence, examples and correct language and terminology appropriate to the course of study. This assessment, involves two written assignments: one halfway through the course and following the final unit. Both are assessed and graded by the assigned tutor, according to college procedures.
AO: 2
Students must critically evaluate and justify a point of view through the use of evidence and reasoned argument. Students can include evidence in different formats to support their written work such as documentation or images to support their course.
Quality of Written Communication (QWC)
In addition, OLC require students’ to produce written material in English, candidates must: ensure that text is legible and that spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPG) are accurate so that meaning is clear; select and use a form and style of writing appropriate to studying a complex subject matter; organise information clearly and coherently, using specialist vocabulary when appropriate and Harvard referencing of citation and sources. In this Specification, SPG will be assessed in all tutor marked assignments (TMAs)
To ensure that we maintain quality standards; all our students written assignments are subject to our plagiarism policy and procedure.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Entry Requirement
Entry to this Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma requires that potential students have gained GCSE/IGCSE or equivalent qualifications and have, good English oral, reading and writing skills.
Advice on enrolment and guidance of prior learning (APL) can be obtained through out contact centre. The course is a rolling programme and can be started at any point in the year. Successful students can go on to Higher Education, including remaining as students at OLC to complete courses in our portfolio of higher awards.
All students must be aged 16 or over.
Assesment
The coursework is assessed through continuous assessment with no formal exit examinations.
Study Hours
Approximately: 200 hours of personal study time for the entire course is recommended. All of which is supported by the OLC Course Tutor, who we greatly encourage students to access support from throughout their course.

Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 1: Introduction to the human body
In this unit you will learn introduces the body systems in a rational manner, demonstrating the links that exist between them. You will review negative feedback mechanisms, positive mechanisms, protection, movement, reproduction as well as atoms, nucleus and compounds.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 2: Communication systems within the body: Part 1
Within this unit you will explore communication, structures and organs. Here you will explore composition, functions and common disorders.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 3: Communication systems within the body: Part 2
Through this unit you will gain an understanding of the structure and function of the human body such as, brain and spinal cord; autonomic nervous system; common disorders and diseases.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 4: Communication systems within the body: Part 3
Here you will discover the uses and functions of the ear, the eye, smell and taste as well as common disorders and disease.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 5: Intake and elimination systems of the body: Part 1
In this unit you will learn about the functions and mechanisms of arts of the body. You will explore the functions and mechanisms of respiratory system, common disorders and disease.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 6: Intake and elimination systems of the body: Part 2
You will explore the presentation and uses of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, vitamins and water to the body.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 7: Intake and elimination systems of the body: Part 3
Here you review the structure and function, Physiology of micturition, and Common disorders and diseases.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 8: The survival and protective systems of the body: Part 1
Within this unit you will explore survival and protection. Students will examine basic genetics, the replication of the human cell, together with repair and how cells deal with invasion of bacteria, viruses and external breaches of defence mechanisms.
Accredited Level 3 Anatomy + Physiology Diploma Unit 9: The survival and protective systems of the body: Part 2
This unit is dedicated to the uses and functions of the bones. You will explore Axial skeleton, joints, muscles and common disorders and disease.
