Introduction
This diploma is designed to explore Journalism. This course is designed for anyone considering a career in this field. You will cover a multitude of areas within the ten units such as concepts and process, laws and ethnics and reporting to name a few.
Learning Objectives

This course consists of Ten Units and is a qualification awarded by Oxford Learning College, in its own right; with the quality assurance of a leading awarding body (CIE Global) that hallmarks this professional qualification.
Assessment Objectives (AO)
AO: 1
Students must select and demonstrate clearly relevant knowledge and understanding through the use of evidence, examples and correct language and terminology appropriate to the course of study. This assessment, involves two written assignments: one halfway through the course and following the final unit. Both are assessed and graded by the assigned tutor, according to college procedures.
AO: 2
Students must critically evaluate and justify a point of view through the use of evidence and reasoned argument. Students can include evidence in different formats to support their written work such as documentation or images to support their course.
Quality of Written Communication (QWC)
In addition, OLC require students’ to produce written material in English, candidates must: ensure that text is legible and that spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPG) are accurate so that meaning is clear; select and use a form and style of writing appropriate to studying a complex subject matter; organise information clearly and coherently, using specialist vocabulary when appropriate and Harvard referencing of citation and sources. In this Specification, SPG will be assessed in all tutor marked assignments (TMAs)

Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Entry Requirement
Entry to this Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma requires that potential students have gained GCSE/IGCSE or equivalent qualifications and have, good English oral, reading and writing skills.
Advice on enrolment and guidance of prior learning (APL) can be obtained through out contact centre. The course is a rolling programme and can be started at any point in the year. Successful students can go on to Higher Education, including remaining as students at OLC to complete courses in our portfolio of higher awards.
All students must be aged 16 or over.
Assessment
The coursework is assessed through continuous assessment with no formal exit examinations.
Study Hours
Approximately: 200 hours of personal study time for the entire course is recommended. All of which is supported by the OLC Course Tutor, who we greatly encourage students to access support from throughout their course.

Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 1: Communication: Concepts and Process
In this unit you will learn the main areas of communication such as concept and process, research, language and communication and international communications. A great way of researching into the background of the Journalism industry.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 2: Communication and Development
Within this unit you will explore the role of communication in relation to development issues across global contexts and linking with the above unit.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 3: History of Press: Laws and Ethnics
Within this unit you will learn about the press and how they capture stories for a write up. You will review legislation of journalism and ethnic guidelines. A great unit to explore the role of journalists and their role in reporting stories and news.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 4: Reporting: Concepts and Process
Here you will discover the process or reporting press as well as reporting beats, features and interviews and opinion writing. You will gain knowledge of the various types of writing and reporting through journalism as well as press coverage.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 5: Reporting: Practical Assignments
In this unit you will learn and explore the journalists role in reporting stories and collaborating images to form a write up. You will demonstrate your own skills through what you have learnt on the course so far and produce written assignments covering all beats. You will cover editing, crafting middles, letter to editors and special articles. A great unit to put your knowledge and understanding into words.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 6: Editing: Concepts and Process
You will develop editing skills through this unit. From your skills you have already and knowledge f the various areas of journalism you will be confident to plan and and visualise news flow and copy editing.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 7: Editing Practicals
Within this unit you will be able to undertake specific detailed tasks and develop skills involved with news editing. You will be confident in providing examination of the role within journalism and portray your understanding.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 8: Audio-Visual Production and Cyber Media
As you work through this unit you will identify media platforms, layout, presentation, design and production. You will also use your knowledge towards photo journalism and graphics. You will be able to produce explain how social media plays a part in journalism and explore the creative aspects of print media/production.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 9: Electronic Journalism
This unit will allow you to explore the world of journalism beyond pen and paper. It will highlight the areas of the media coverage used in writing and how media helps to promote stories. At the end of this unit you will be able to explain television journalism, reading, interviewing, news anchoring and radio and television news production.
Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma Unit 10: PR, Advertising and Newspaper Management
In this final unit you will use all of your new skills towards your final module. You will be confident in knowing the role off a journalist, media coverage, productions, write up, social media coverage and television anchoring. To end your course you will consider threats to media and production via marketing to gain subscribers and inter-relationships between journalism and other fields. You will have learnt the complex web of newspaper management and advertising economics.

This Accredited Level 3 Journalism Diploma can be used to gain entry to a Level 4 Diploma or higher.
