How online study supports students before and after study abroad

“How online study can support international students before and after study abroad.”

It has always fascinated us that we have so many international students studying with us at Oxford College. Whilst they are all located in the four “corners” of the world, they are united by the love of learning and the dedication to study and better themselves somehow. Many are non-native English speakers and can study at Level 3 and on to BTEC Higher National Diploma level, giving them a great opportunity to then attend a UK university.

We have many foreign students who have studied in the UK and gained high IELTS scores or passed their Cambridge exams and have, for many various reasons, returned home and continued to study by distance learning. For some this is due to there being more choice of subjects offered by online colleges such as ourselves. For others it gives them the opportunity to live and work in their home country but to study in English and continue to use and expand their language skills.

Then we have others who have studied at school in their own country and reached a level of study online (such as with our BTEC HND courses) to allow them to be considered for UK university entry. At this point they then travel abroad to study in the UK using the language skills and qualifications they have gained from online study.

The combinations are vast; we have, for example, a Nigerian student with Icelandic residency living in Reykjavik studying online in English! He plans to come to UK for university once he has passed the BTEC HND in Health & Social Care. Another example is a Greek student who has lived in Scotland for 14 months to obtain an MBA but now enjoys regularly studying Diploma courses online so that she can be at home with her young family while expanding her knowledge on a range of courses. She currently studies our Diploma in Child Coaching.

There are many ways in which online study can support international students both before and after study abroad. We’re proud to be a part of this global study community.
