From Your Student Services Team – IA12: Can I Complete a Level 3 Diploma Quicker Than 1 Year?

Many students enrolling on our Level 3 Diploma programmes are highly motivated and keen to progress as quickly as possible—whether to start university, change careers, or meet specific job requirements. One of the most common questions we receive is:

“Can I finish my Level 3 Diploma in less than a year?”

The short answer is: yes, it’s possible—but success depends on several key factors. In this article, we explain what’s required and how you can make faster progress without compromising quality.

What Is the Standard Duration?

Our Level 3 Diplomas are designed to be completed in 12 months, which allows learners to manage their studies alongside personal or professional commitments. However, because our courses are fully online and self-paced, many students successfully complete their diplomas in 6 to 9 months, or even sooner depending on the version of the course they are enrolled in.

Standard vs Accredited Diplomas: What’s the Difference?

Oxford College offers two formats of Level 3 Diplomas: Standard and Accredited. Understanding the difference is essential, especially if you’re looking to fast-track your studies.

Accredited Level 3 Diplomas

  • Consist of two assignments only:
    • Assignment 1 (after Unit 5) includes:
      • Task 1: Based on Units 1 to 3
      • Task 2: Based on Units 4 and 5
    • Assignment 2: Submitted after completing Unit 10, covering the final part of the course.
  • No exams — your work is internally assessed and verified.
  • Suitable for students who need a fully accredited qualification for university entry, teacher training, career development, or professional CPD.
  • Timeframe: Can be completed in 6–12 months, depending on study pace and assignment turnaround.

Standard Level 3 Diplomas

  • Based on the same learning outcomes as the accredited version, but less formal in structure.
  • Assignments are optional, and primarily for revision or practice.
  • Your qualification is awarded based on a final online multiple-choice exam, which can be taken at any time once you feel ready.
  • Ideal for learners seeking maximum flexibility, faster completion, or general knowledge and upskilling without the need for formal accreditation.
  • Timeframe: Some students complete in just 2–4 months, depending on their schedule and exam readiness.

How Can I Complete It More Quickly?

1. Time Commitment

If your goal is to finish quickly, expect to dedicate:

  • 10–15 hours per week for a fast-track Accredited route
  • Or as little as 5–10 hours per week for quicker completion of the Standard route

2. Assignment Submission (Accredited Route)

With only two assignments required, timely submission is key. Our tutors provide feedback within 1-7 working days, and high-quality submissions can move you toward completion quickly.

3. Exam Readiness (Standard Route)

If you’re on the Standard path, you can click the link to start the exam, there’s no need to wait for fixed dates. Many learners choose to study intensively and sit the exam within just a few months.

4. Use Your Tutor

Your tutor can support you with both assignments and exam preparation. Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification or guidance, they’re here to help you stay on track.

Is Early Completion Recognised?

Absolutely. Whether you complete in 12 months or 4, your qualification is equally valid and awarded as soon as you’ve met the requirements—either by:

  • Passing both assignments (Accredited), or
  • Successfully completing the online exam (Standard).

There’s no disadvantage to finishing early.

Final Thoughts

Yes, you can complete a Level 3 Diploma faster than 1 year, and at Oxford College, we’ve designed both routes to support flexibility. Whether you choose the Accredited Diploma for a regulated, formally recognised qualification or the Standard Diploma for a fast, exam-based path, your success is within reach.
