Introduction
This diploma is designed to explore Aromatherapy. You will explore what Aromatherapy is and oils and how to use them and treating illness. You will learn to develop new skills and improve on existing ones. On the course you will study a variety of different areas from the role Aromatherapy plays in everyday life and how helpful people find it.
Learning Objectives
- Students will have an opportunity to learn the different herbal oils.
- To review the efficiency of essential oils in everyday use.
- Look at different plants used to make oils.
- A review of how to use different oils.
The course encourages the development of using Aromatherapy into daily lives if it helps with the aid of healing and support.
This course consists of Ten Units and is a qualification awarded by CIE Global, a leading Awarding Body.
Assessment Objectives (AO)
AO: 1
Students must select and demonstrate clearly relevant knowledge and understanding through the use of evidence, examples and correct language and terminology appropriate to the course of study. This assessment, involves two written assignments: one halfway through the course and following the final unit. Both are assessed and graded by the assigned tutor, according to college procedures.
AO: 2
Students must critically evaluate and justify a point of view through the use of evidence and reasoned argument. Students can include evidence in different formats to support their written work such as documentation or images to support their course remembering Confidentiality and Data Protection.
Quality of Written Communication (QWC)
In addition, OLC require students’ to produce written material in English, candidates must: ensure that text is legible and that spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPG) are accurate so that meaning is clear; select and use a form and style of writing appropriate to studying a complex subject matter; organise information clearly and coherently, using specialist vocabulary when appropriate and Harvard referencing of citation and sources. In this Specification, SPG will be assessed in all tutor marked assignments (TMAs)

Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Entry Requirement
Entry to this Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma requires that potential students have gained GCSE/IGCSE or equivalent qualifications and have, good English oral, reading and writing skills.
Advice on enrolment and guidance of prior learning (APL) can be obtained through out contact centre. The course is a rolling programme and can be started at any point in the year. Successful students can go on to Higher Education, including remaining as students at OLC to complete courses in our portfolio of higher awards.
All students must be aged 16 or over.
Assesment
The coursework is assessed through continuous assessment with no formal exit examinations.
Study Hours
Approximately: 200 hours of personal study time for the entire course is recommended. All of which is supported by the OLC Course Tutor, who we greatly encourage students to access support from throughout their course.

Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 1: What is Aromatherapy
In this unit you will learn the terminology of Aromatherapy. You will review how oils are made and using certain flowers and other ingredients. You will learn how plan materials are used to create essential oils and are used in the process of Aromatherapy.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 2: Basic Taxology (part 1)
Through this unit you will learn the terminology of Taxology. You will discover case studies for Aromatherapists and their background in this field.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 3: Basic Taxology: How oils are classified and applied
The unit covers how essential oils get into your body. It explains both pathways in which the oils are absorbed. You will explore areas of the benefits of using essential oils and the benefits of using them.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 4: The Chemistry of Essential Oils Explained
This is referring to how oils are made up of different elements and their function on our bodies. You will discover the properties of these oils in the respect of how we use them for healing. You will discover the chemistry side of these oils and components included.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 5: How to use Essential Oils
Here you will learn how massage and aromatherapy compare and how they are related to how oils are used on the body. You will explore calculations of oils and to base using formulas. A great discovery of skin treatments such as creams oils and lotions created from essential oils.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 6: Using Essential Oils Safely
Here you will learn and understand how to use oils safety. This unit includes the storage, labelling and diluting and accidents. You will review how to keep safe from ingesting oils and the process in accidental situations.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 7: Classification Properties and Use and Safety.
Here you will learn how different ingredients are used to make oils. You will have knowledge of various different ingredients such as Aniseed, Basil, Bermagot, Cajeput and more. A great opportunity do some more research for yourself on these ingredients too.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 8: Aromatic Waters
As this unit is referring to Aromatic waters you will earn the chemicals contained within certain oils. You will discover the properties and uses, what family it belongs to, which part is used and dosage required to be used.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 9: Treating Common Complaints
Within this unit you will learn how oils are used to treat common complaints. You will learn how different oils, creams and lotions are used for various parts of the body and what the medicines will treat. You will learn about conditions and the treatments required.
Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma Unit 10: Creative Blending
In this final unit you will learn how to blend ingredients. You will have knowledge of the top, base and middle note. You will learn how to use base oils, blend modifiers, equalisers and the percentage of ingredients within each oil, lotion and cream.
ASSESSMENT
The coursework is assessed through continuous assessment with no formal exit examinations. Through assessment you will cover certain criteria such as:
- Theoretical Knowledge/ Understanding
- Practical Implications
- Integration of Theory and Practice.
Assignments
The course has TWO Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA); which are graded: Pass or Fail. The grading procedure if Pass or Fail. Your grade will depend upon if the criteria set ha been met and the decision of your tutor. If you Fail an assessment you have the opportunity to amend where your tutor has highlighted and resubmit.

Approximately: 20 hours personal study time per unit, which is supported by the ODL Course Tutor, but we greatly encouraged students to access support from their tutor throughout the course.
Progression
This Accredited Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma can be used to gain entry to a Level 4 Diploma or higher.
