Introduction
This Level 6 Diploma in Healthcare Management is a degree equivalent qualification. Split into 10 units of study, students will learn and develop management skills tailored to fit the role of someone working within a Health and Social Care Management role or looking to enter into this sector.
Each unit of study is designed to build on knowledge from previous units of study and equip the student with a full and thorough understanding and ability to effectively work within a Healthcare Management role.
The course is assessed through written coursework assessments and you are required to complete all 10 units successfully to achieve the Level 6 qualification.

Course Aims
The course presents content related to generic management skills for those who are planning to, or already working in a health and social care management role. The course provides a flexible route for those who have already achieved management qualifications or who may have qualifications in other areas and/or prior experience the work place.
Each unit will be presented with full overviews of the learning outcomes, assessment criteria and what is required academically. Units will cover all indicative content related to the specification, and provide opportunities for you to engage in independent study and research through guided activities and a range of scenarios.
This qualification is designed for learners who are typically aged 19 and above and it is a 120 credit qualification.

Level 6 Healthcare Management Diploma Entry Requirements
You must have:
One or two years study of Healthcare Management or related qualifications at a Higher Education Institution to enter into or Level 6 Healthcare Management Diploma.
- A level 5 (QCF) qualification in Healthcare Management or related subjects.
- Other equivalent international qualifications.
You must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable you to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments. You may also have relevant work experience.

Level 6 Healthcare Management Diploma Course Content
You must successfully complete all units and associated assessments to achieve the 120 points for the award. The optional units have already been chosen and incorporated into the study content below. The selection has been based on the most appropriate units for distance learners.
Unit 1: International Healthcare Policy
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 15 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 60.
This unit provides you with an opportunity to explore the international context for healthcare policy and organisation of healthcare. There will also be discussion on contemporary issues and promotion of public health. The unit will help you understand the political, social and cultural issues that help to determine healthcare policy and provide you with an opportunity to critically assess the policies and practice contextually.
Unit 2: Managing Quality and Service Delivery
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 10 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 40.
This unit aims to introduce you to the delivery of excellent customer service. You will also develop knowledge and understanding required for quality measurement and management of service delivery.
Unit 3: Leadership and Management
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 15 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 60.
The aim of this unit is to enable you to understand theories of leadership and management and how to use leadership and management skills to improve motivation and performance. You will also learn about the development and effectiveness of teams
Unit 4: Managing Finance in the Public Sector
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 10 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 40
The aim of this unit is to help you develop the skills and techniques to analyse and control finance in a public sector environment. It will also explain accountability for public sector finance.
Unit 5: Personal Leadership and Management Development
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 10 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 40
This unit aims to enable you to develop your own personal leadership and management skills to support the achievement of own and organisational objectives.
Unit 6: Human Resource Management
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 15 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 60.
The aim of this unit is to help you develop skills and knowledge in the field of human resource management strategy and also to look at contemporary issues which affect human resource strategy within organisations.
Unit 7: Programme Leadership
This is a level 7 unit with a credit value of 10 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 40.
The aim of this unit is to help you develop the skills to be able to plan and lead a programme of related projects and critically evaluate the programme.
Unit 8: Strategic Planning
This is a level 7 unit with a credit value of 15 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 60.
The aim of this unit is to help you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to develop an organisational strategic plan.
Unit 9: Leading Organisational Equality and Diversity
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 10 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 40.
The aim of this unit is to enable you to develop an understanding of the importance of managing organisational equality and diversity and to understand how to lead the approach to equality and diversity within an organisation.
Unit 10: Research Project
This is a level 6 unit with a credit value of 10 and a suggested guided learning hour content of 40.
This unit aims to help you develop the skills required to produce a research question and carry out independent research using appropriate research techniques. The unit also aims to enable you to analyse research findings, evaluate research methodology used and present findings.
