From Your Student Services Team IA11: Is the Fast Track A Level Option Achievable?
At Oxford College, we understand that many of our students have unique goals and timelines. Whether you’re aiming for university entry, career progression, or personal achievement, you may have come across our Fast Track A Level option and wondered, “Is this really achievable?” In this article, we explain what the Fast Track route involves and how you can succeed.

What Is the Fast Track A Level?
A standard A Level programme typically takes two years to complete. The Fast Track option allows motivated learners to complete the full qualification in just one academic year (or sooner in some cases). This is made possible through our self-paced online learning platform, allowing you to move quickly through your studies when you’re ready.
This route is ideal for students who:
Have prior knowledge or experience in the subject area.
- Require an A Level for university entry deadlines.
- Are resitting an A Level subject.
- Are focused, independent learners who can dedicate consistent study time each week.
- Have prior knowledge or experience in the subject area.
How Do I Know If I Can Achieve This?
The short answer is: yes, but it depends on your commitment and time management.
1. Workload Commitment
A typical A Level course contains 350–400 guided learning hours. On a Fast Track schedule, this equates to around 8–12 hours of study per week per subject, though some students may progress faster. You should consider your personal responsibilities and whether you can realistically dedicate this time.
2. Self-Motivation & Independence
Unlike a traditional classroom, online learning requires you to be self-motivated. While our tutors are here to help, you’ll need to take charge of your study schedule and meet the assignment and exam deadlines yourself.
3. Previous Experience or Knowledge
Some students take a Fast Track option because they already have some understanding of the subject, making it easier to move through the content quickly. If you’re completely new to the subject, it’s achievable, but expect to spend more time studying.
4. Assessment & Exam Entry Deadlines
All A Level courses are assessed by exams set by the awarding body (such as Edexcel or AQA). These exams are taken in the May/June exam session. You’ll need to make sure you’re registered with an exam centre well in advance—typically by January/February of the exam year.
Your Student Services Team can help you understand these deadlines and assist with exam bookings where possible.

What Support Will I Receive?
Even on a Fast Track programme, you’re never alone. Oxford College offers:

Is Fast Track Right for Me?
Fast Track is suited for:
- Highly motivated individuals with clear goals.
- Students who have the time and focus to dedicate several hours each week.
- Those comfortable working independently with online learning resources.
It may not be suitable if:
- You struggle with time management.
- You have limited availability due to work, family, or other commitments.
- You prefer a slower-paced learning style.
